Our Catholic Faith teaches us that parents are the first educators of their children; and their primary catechist. Your participation and support of the religious education program in the classroom and at home is vital.
It is essential you bring your child to participate in Mass, take them to Confession regularly, and pray with them each day. It is even more important that you model the behavior of the faith for you children to witness.
Discuss with your child what they learned in class each time, and discuss the Mass and the readings with them. Ask them to consider how what they learn has a connection to their own lives.
If possible, try to participate yourself in parish activities and ministries. This not only helps to support the parish but give your child a wonderful witness to how they also belong to our Parish Family. You are the greastest influence in your child's life and they will follow your example. In the words of the Baptismal Rite, "May you be the best of teachers, raising them up in the ways of the Faith."
Preparation
The Diocese of Wilmingotn requires that students complete one year of a religious education cirriculum or one year of catholic school before entering into Sacramental Preparation. As always, please contact the Religious Education office should you have any questions regarding this policy and your child.
Baptismal Certificates
If your child was baptized at a parish other than St. Christopher's, please provide us with a copy of their Baptismal Certificate as part of their student record. Students are required to have this on file before receiving First Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If your child has not been baptized, please contact the Parish Office for information on preparation and scheduling. Call 410-643-6220.
