How hot is it..REALLY??? No matter the weather, we always seem to want a comfortable temperature for US. I was on a Navy Destroyer in 1968 when we visited Chittagong East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). When we went on Liberty, it was hotter than I had ever experienced…but food was what the local people needed (they lined up shoulder to shoulder asking for food…not air conditioning ). So too here…the poor need the help of our food bank. St. Christopher’s Food Bank is in need of cold cereal, canned tuna, canned fruit. If you happen to have extra fresh fruit or vegetables from your garden…bring them either to St. Christopher’s or Safe Harbor for distribution. Renew yourself by praying over the Beatitudes in Matthew 5.
A special thank you to all the adults and kids who answered a call to "extend a hand" to help your QAC neighbors in need at the monthly emergency Food Pantry in July (and every month). 170 people were served at 2 locations. These folks went back to feed their families fresh local produce, meat, baked goods and non perishable food: 349 total people!! Volunteers are still needed in Sept and Oct. See haven-ministries.org and look under the tab: "Other Ways to Help"/Emergency Food Pantry/ SignUp Genius/ Safe Harbor or Centreville. May God bless you all abundantly as you go about serving others as the hands and feet of Christ. For questions or to volunteer, contact: Mary Jourdak, msjourdak@gmail.com or Bridgitte Bailey, BBailey@stchristopherski.org
Did you know that …the Knights of Columbus Fortune 1000 Insurance Company was born out of Father McGivney’s vision to help protect Catholic families from financial ruin. As a seminarian, his father died unexpectedly. Father McGivney was convinced that there had to be a way to help other Catholic families facing similar financial troubles. He established the K of C insurance system that has evolved into a top-rated insurance program, with over $100 billion of life insurance in force. (Thank you, Andrew Butler of Christian Living) The Knights of Columbus is an organization of Catholic men dedicated to the Church and the Community. We are always seeking new members who can help us in our programs to support our Parishioners and members of our community. If all do some, some will not have to do all. Interested men 18 years of age and older should contact Mike McQuillan, MCQ521@aol.com or 301-655-8897 or Jim Klunk 410-924-2270 or klunkinc@gmail.com. Members of our Knights of Columbus Council 7941 will again be selling raffle tickets in the narthex after each mass this weekend. The winning tickets for three prizes will be drawn on at the Columbus Day ball on October 12, 2019 at the BWI Marriott. The grand prize is a 2020 Ford Mustang or $18,000 in cash.
On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, Gabriel Said Reynolds, Professor of Islamic Studies and Theology at the University of Notre Dame, will give a talk on his recent book on The Bible and the Qur'an in the Longwood Room at Salesianum School. The Holy Spirit resides in each and every person on earth…no matter color, religion (or not), country of origin, political persuasion, etc…as Christ reached out to ALL people, we should also…and allow the judging to be left to God Himself. That is the objective of the St. Christopher’s Food Bank and we need your help…peanut butter, jelly, boxed potatoes, boxed rice and “rice sides,” canned peas, canned carrots. “For He delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper. He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy.” (Psalms 72:12-13)

Did you know...Persecuted Christians in the Middle East have been forced to flee the homeland they have occupied since Biblical times. In 2014, the Knights of Columbus responded by setting up the Christian Refugee Relief Fund which directs 100% of donations to humanitarian assistance for these Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East. Members of our Knights of Columbus Council 7941 will be selling raffle tickets in the narthex after each mass this weekend July 13-14 and again on Sunday 21 July. We will possibly be selling them again in August. The winning tickets for three prizes will be drawn on at the Columbus Day Ball on October 12, 2019 at the BWI Marriott. The grand prize is a 2020 Ford Mustang or $18,000 in cash. Second prize is an iPod and third prize is a $200 gift card. Tickets are $1 each. Our Council receives $0.60 on each dollar of each ticket sold to be used for Council #7941 Charity Fund and operating expenses. $0.40 of each dollar goes to the State Council for support of the Knights of Columbus scholarship fund. Throughout the year our Council supports St. Christopher's Parish by providing labor helping "Night to Shine," offering free pancake dinners on Shrove Tuesday, sponsoring archery and poster contests for our young people and supplying over 100 families with full Christmas dinners each year. The list of other charitable activities is known to everyone and too long to print here. Please support us in this endeavor. It is one of our main fundraisers.
NEXT WEEKEND (July 13-14) we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to support mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the world's most vulnerable communities. Please keep the Pope's missions in your prayers and be generous in next week's collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
