Various options for Catechists for helping while we are remote...
Option 1: Assist with Reviewing Weekly Student Assignments via Email
We will need catechists within each of the various grade levels to help us review the
Gospel Weeklies
as they are submitted by families. Whoever would like to help with this will be assigned a Church email (your first initial last name @ stchristopherski.org ) where the children’s work that was submitted will be automatically sent to your church email. It will also be sent to Katie and Joni.
As long as we are remote, rather than having one assigned class roster, you would be checking the homework of several grades instead of just the one you are signed up to teach in the classroom. For example, if you are signed up to teach 2nd grade, you would be responsible for reviewing the "Good News" assignments which cover both 2nd grade and 3rd grade, for all 2
nd
and 3
rd
grade students (not just one particular class). Our enrollment is low this year, so we do not foresee an abundance of emails coming to any one of you. You will be given a total roster of the students in your remote group.
If at any time you find it is too many for you to keep up with just let Joni know! She can help!
We are looking to see that
children have completed their Gospel Weekly to the best of their ability and family circumstances.
You
do NOT
have to print out and grade these individually; rather we want to see only that the work has been attempted, and of course if there is anything concerning about any answers or if families/children ask for your help, please email them using your assigned Church email. As with any church email please also copy (CC) us directly (
JKilgore@stchristopherski.org
) to help them.
Please keep track of which families have emailed their homework. Please email us this list each month. We will be checking the homework of the families who decide to turn in their child’s work physically. We will also keep a master list of our children enrolled, so that we can compare those who have turned in their work either way. This will let me check in with families who ARE enrolled, but haven’t turned in homework by email or physically to see what I can do to help support them in continuing to educate their child.
Families enrolled in Religious Ed. this year will have gotten instructions on how to complete and turn in their child’s work so you should not get any “technical assistance” questions in your email. If you get those or any questions that you don’t feel comfortable answering, please send them along to Joni Kilgore and she can contact the families.
Option 2: Help Create Additional Enrichment Lesson Plans for Parish Website During Remote Learning
These Enrichment Lessons will be a variety of things, some lessons may be pre-recorded, some may be activities for families to complete such as making an Advent Wreath or supporting a local food bank. Each of the Enrichment Lessons will be grouped by grade levels and uploaded onto the parish website, each month.
Our goal is to have between 1-2 Enrichment Lessons added to the parish website for each month, so they will be bi-weekly or monthly.
We will not be doing interactive virtual lessons, meaning there will be no "live" or "interactive" online learning via Zoom or Google Classroom. Any lessons that require a video will be pre-recorded ahead of time and then posted for families to access on the parish website.
Any Catechist who would like to help with this option is encouraged to contact Joni Kilgore directly. The Enrichment Lessons will be planned around the Liturgical Calendar as best we can. This will help keep all the content for this upcoming year consistent across all grade levels. For example, around the week of November 1
st
- the Enrichment Lesson would be centered around All Saint's Day.
If you have a particular lesson plan that you have done in the past with your students and would like to share, this option might be great for you! You can submit/ help with one lesson or do several, the choice is up to you.
Option 3: Remain on Standby for the assigned grade and class you have signed up to teach in person- so that when we are able to return to the classrooms we are able to transition smoothly.
We appreciate your willingness to volunteer as a catechist for our parish this year! For this option all you need to do is be on stand-by for the class you originally signed up for.
Our Remote Learning will be taking place at least through the end of December and we will re-evaluate at that time for moving forward with the remainder of the year- all depending on how things are going.
I am interested in helping in the following ways for the 2020-2021 Religious Ed School year. (Please select all that apply)
