The Confirmation Mass last week was a beautiful celebration, and we continue to pray for these young members of our parish, that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit will help them as they discover God’s will for them in the world and the Church. The bishop was very happy to be here, and was pleased that the parish continues to grow and develop in faith. His presence was a blessing and an encouragement, as we continue to mourn the loss of Father Paul Campbell and move forward together along the way of the Lord.
This Saturday we celebrate with those children who receive the Lord in the Eucharist for the first time. They and their families have been waiting for this day, and we rejoice with them. I must admit, even more than this, I enjoy watching the children when they come to Mass the first time after receiving First Holy Communion. There is something wonderful about watching their faces as they come up with the entire congregation and do what everyone else is doing – receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Look for them the next few weekends. You will be able to identify them by the broad smiles on their faces!
As our Religious Education Program comes to an end for this academic year, I want to thank all everyone who worked so hard to make sure that our faith is passed on to them. Katie Sukley and her assistant Joni Kilgore put in countless hours administering the programs, and you will not find a better team. The catechists and aides not only share their knowledge, but also their love of the faith and the Church. How blessed we are to have them! Most especially, thanks to the parents and guardians, who trust us as partners in their primary duty to bring up their children in the practice of the faith. The fact that we have so many young families and see them at Mass week after week speaks highly of the importance of faith and the welcoming atmosphere they find in our parish!
Have a great week and Happy Easter, everyone. May God bless you and your loved ones!
