Winter Homeless Shelter at KIUMC Oct – April – Volunteers make & serve dinner; provide food for boxed breakfast/lunch for shelter guests, or volunteers stay with the guests from 6pm to midnight, before paid staff comes. Our church has 4 wks. All homeless people at our shelter must be seen by the Case Manager and be enrolled in a program to assist them, with specific goals, to return to independent living. (Winter shelter is for QAC residents who have been vetted, background checked, drug free and have a breathalyzer test each night. The Sheriffs Department & DSS, are aware of HM strict guidelines, as a church run organization, when referring the homeless to HM. If guests don’t meet admission policies, the Case Manager will work to find them other resources.) Monthly Emergency Food Pantry - 2 locations: Safe Harbor in Stevensville & CUMC in Centreville, 3rd Fri of the month. Providing fresh meat, produce, dairy, bread. Volunteer signup genius at haven-ministries.org Our Daily Thread Thrift Store- volunteers help sort and accept donations to sell. Anyone in need can make an appt. to get free clothing and housewares, when faced with a crisis. 410-353-0455 HOPE Warehouse (by the outlets) – similar to Habitat’s ReStore in Easton. Volunteers can help Thurs to Sat. 4-fold benefit: 1) accept donations of furniture, appliances & bldg. supplies so people/ businesses can recycle their things. 2) Items sold at a low cost to the public. 3)Anyone who can’t afford to pay, can make appointment to come get what they need at no cost. 4) 15 week Customer Service Training Program for homeless people needing a job can earn a certificate. Upon completion, HM helps find gainful employment by partnering with local businesses. 410-490-8498 The Resource Center – basement of St. Paul’s Episcopal in Centreville – Offers a place of referral and connection to services in QAC. Offers Case Management, education classes, job training and use of computers. Volunteers give their time by driving HM van for transportation of homeless here, answer the phones, and assist by leading many of the programs. 410-758-0129 Year-Round Street Outreach- Case Management to help with immediate housing crisis: connect to resources, provide emergency help if shelter is closed or people don’t qualify for the shelter. Case Manager: 410-739-7859 Community Events – HM has volunteers at events such as KI Days, “Make a Difference Day”, Senior Summit, 4-H Fair, Kids Connect at KIHS, Red Cross Relief Efforts in the Community, St. Christopher’s Artisan Fair, Hospitality Sunday (at our church) & QAC Goes Purple events. HM provides information to educate & assist people in need of services, programs & resources. Fundraising Events – to raise funds to support HM programs and again provide education to the public on the need for services for the homeless and poor in our county. Ultimate goal is for: (these are a few): Expansion of Job Training Program Housing Assist. Program with acquisition of a building for long term housing with extensive case management services. Long term housing opportunities to combat the issue of lack of affordable housing in QAC None of this would be possible without the support of our churches & volunteers!
